Perhaps because New York City winters have made me realize how awful I look on that pale yellow skin tone but probably and most likely because I’m aware that if I’m not happy under my own skin, no one else will be for me.

My first diet was when I was 6 years old and so, you know, I've never been a small girl and one day, I had to like sit down with myself and decide that I'll love myself no matter what my body looked like, no matter what other people thought of my body. I had to love myself.

I just got tired of feeling bad all the time, I got tired of hating myself and so I really had to have that conversation with myself and find what I love about myself.

What is your size?

Hmm, I'm not sure, but I'm a 13 or 14 on Forever 21's jeans. :)

Have you always been plump? Why?

I started getting chubby when I was about, 8 years old. Then slowly i got bigger. I was still fine till 4th yr. high school. It wasn't too much but I got teased a lot cause I stood out so much for being tall as well. Why? Because I love food. Ha! It's awesome, I was never the, "Omg, i gained weight!" type of girl. Even if I'm a chub chub, I always knew I looked good. So, maybe that's why I never did anything about it. I was blessed with a curvy body and being voluptuous didn't make me bothered by it. lol

Have you ever been bullied/verbally abused/discouraged because of your weight? (IF YES,) How did you react? What did you do about it?

Yes, of course. When I was younger, I was getting teased, but not a lot. But whenever we where asked to teach unfortunate kids in slum areas, I was called names that hurt me and made me feel bad deep inside. In highschool, I was teased too, since that was the puberty stage of boys. Whenever we'd play games, I wouldn't join, but I wanted to, I just couldn't because I didn't want to make a fool of myself if I did something physically challenging. I was always told that I'm pretty, gorgeous, stunning, beautiful, everything, but there was always a "but" afterwards. I get it though, so I just make it seem that I'm okay with everything, that I didn't care but I did, somehow. I showed everyone that I'm confident and that's how they looked at me. Deep inside, I'm burning with insecurities. Until now, I guess, that's the case. I can carry myself, but I'm not as confident as I seem.

Who is your style icon?

I don't think I have one, to be honest. Demi Lovato would be the closest as a fashion icon could be for me. I'm new to the fashion world even if I am a fashion design student. I have so much learning to do. My style is basically depending on my mood. I have no specific style. I like playing around with style.

Favorite store?

Forever 21 at the moment. I just buy my clothes anywhere I can find something nice. I'm not into brands too, so. :)

Favorite pieces of clothing to wear?

I basically mix and match whatever I can. But lately, I like cardigans over low sleeveless tops and skinny jeans. It's simple but I twist it with accessories and makeup. :)

How do you want people to see your style?

I want them to see me as girly girl but can go dark and messy. Demi Lovato style.

Where do you get your confidence from?

Just myself, and maybe some of my friends who believes i'm pretty even with a plump body. :)

How important are other people’s perception of you to you?

Depends on who we're talking about. I'm more of the type that I'll try to please everyone, but if they really can't appreciate me and I'm not doing anything wrong then it's their problem, not mine. But I do care about it. Yes. Not to the point that I would compromise, though. :)

What made you interested in make up?

Make up for me is: My art. My passion.

What made u create a youtube channel? Did you feel comfortable putting yourself out there right away? Why or why not?

Because I like performing. Acting was my first art and I love pleasing people. Plus, I wanted to share what I knew. Some people are amazed of what i can do and asks me all the time how, so I just made a video. I made a youtube channel, because I wanted to be famous and a known Filipina Makeup guru too. :)

Somehow, i'm shy of my channel, but sometimes I'm also proud of it cause a lot of people praise me for my talent. Generally, I am proud.

What are the pros and cons of having a public vlog?

Pros are, people get to know you easily cause it's in the internet. It's easy access. You also get to meet a lot of other girls and guys that do the same thing you do. You get attention and recognition. The only bad thing is, haters will always hate, even if you didn't do something bad. They can be just trolls or they don't like what you did. Beauty and art can never have that ONE perfect look. It always varies and not everyone will like it even if you think you did an amazing job.

Do you put on make up everyday? Why?

No, It also depends on my mood if I feel like it. Also, I want to make my face rest at times. I want my friends and family to be shocked and amazed when they see me fully made up for an event or occasion. If I wore thick makeup everytime, they'd be just used to it. No more "Wow!" factor. :)) I've always believed in the saying, "Natural is beautiful but Makeup is glam" by Judy from ItsJudyTime on Youtube. :) Natural or Made up, we can always be beautiful.

Do you think make up makes women forget about natural beauty? Why or why not?

Sometimes, girls can be overpowered by makeup that it hides their true beautiful, God-given features. Makeup is only to enhance it, not change it. And I've seen a lot of girls cake on too much makeup when it's not needed. So sadly, yes.

What makes your channel stand out?

I think my humor makes it stand out and how I make some artsy fartsy makeup looks. It's not the typical glam makeup. I also, just started to have a TeenaTalk and an Ask Teena. People like it somehow. They think my corny "banats" are funny whenever I say something silly on my videos. :))

What is your message to girls who want to learn make up but are discouraged because of lack of knowledge/skills?

Youtube has thousands and thousands of videos about makeup. It's simple, If there's a Will, there's a Way. I you really want to learn, you'd do something about it. If you don't have internet, you can always apply in Makeup Seminars or really invest and sign up in a Beauty school. Or simply, asking a friend that knows how. Baby steps, and you'll learn how on your own. Play around with it and have fun! Don't worry about it and just do it. Practice! Practice! Practice! Soon enough, you'll be amazing at it. :)

Message to other Plump Pinays:

My message to the plump pinays is, that you should love yourself as you are. God fearfully and wonderfully made us in His own image, therefore no one is ugly. Thick or thin, it's only about the confidence that you show people that makes them look at you in a perspective. It shouldn't matter what they think of you as long as you're happy. But of course, it's always nicer to live healthy. :) Love the body you're in and work every curve.

P.S Don't worry about the men. There are tons of guys that likes chubby girls more than stick thin ones. 'Nuff said. :)

Have a Flawless body scrub!

This is a treatment we've never ever done before. Good thing our good friend Isa from Flawless invited us to try it out!

We went to their flagship store in Mega Mall and my oh my, people were crammed in the place! I guess that's a good thing, because it goes to show how many fans this face and body center has.

After several hours of waiting, the receptionist led us to our separate rooms. It was a small one but it was very clean. It had a bed and a steam machine beside it. It had towels on it and a cap and disposable undies prepared for me. The girl assisted me with my things and was very friendly and accommodating. After changing to my knickers, the body scrub began!

The scrub was a thick, translucent liquid with small grains of salt. It was very ticklish for me but the girl was nice enough to go gentle on me and stop if I needed her to. It was relaxing in a weird way because I felt like I was being massaged, only the texture was very rough. Now I know how it feels like to be a fish being salted! Haha!

I was "marinated" in the scrub for around 15 minutes then I was asked to rinse it all off. The shower was right inside the room for the customer's convenience. After drying myself, I was asked to lay down again (she changed the towel sheets, yay!) for the second round of the treatment which is the body mask. The body mask was said to lighten the skin (not that I want to be lighter) and make it glow. It also closes the pores after the rough scrubbing prior, which is a logical and comforting way to end the treatment. The body scrub was a bit cold but I liked it very much! The girl used a brush in applying it on my skin. After around 15 to 20 minutes, I had to rinse it off again.

The result was awesome!!! She had to "seal in" the moisture with their own special lotion. After that, my skin was super supple! Stacy and I looked crazy caressing our arms continuously, feeling the smoothness of our freshly exfoliated barreehhh! :)

I suggest you try it out if you have ingrown hair and small bumps on your skin, it will help for sure! If you have dry and chapped skin, this is also perfect for you! Body scrubs are perfect for exfoliating and removing dead skin cells, but too much can be damaging. I suggest you have a body scrub once a week. It'll leave you feeling silky smooth and rejuvenated after!

What's one thing you hindered yourself from doing because of your weight and how did you win over it?

Gellie answered:

I actually had second thoughts about fashion blogging and recently a new comment in my blog showed up telling me that people comment nicely in my blog just because they feel sorry for me cos I'm fat. I will not deny the fact that I was still affected and hurt; but after a few minutes of thinking about it and some words of encouragement from my blogger friends, I just shrugged it off and moved on. I know I'm just expressing myself and fashion for me is an art which is a form of self expression.

Nothing and no one should ever stop us from doing the things we love to do. We are as beautiful as how we see ourselves. I've had second thoughts about fashion blogging because of comments like that; but I've thought of it and realized, I'm not blogging to please but to inspire and to encourage fellow plus-size women that everyone can be beautiful. If I show a hint of defeat, my purpose is already defeated. Thus, I continue my journey into blogging and will just shrug off the negative comments.

I will just be myself and continue loving who I am.

With what the media has been telling us, performers (singers, actors, etc.) should be thin, period. My passion is for the arts, theater acting and singing in particular, and in this business, you gotta be beautiful aside from having talents. At one time that I was invited to do a mini concert, I got sort of disappointed because the clothes they have provided that I wear were literally for petite people. I don't know if they were "nananadya" or something. Luckily I brought my own clothes that time. So I went on with the show, did my thing, and had a standing ovation. And from then on, I didn't care if I was the chubby singer or that chubby theater actress. All I cared about was to show everyone that I am as good as those skinny people, or even better as some would say. I am passionate with what I do and I'll continue doing it because it fulfills me :D

Because i am so much bigger than a lot of my beautiful cousins and sister,in the past i would hide during family occasions whenever someone would bring out a camera. but it was my curvy physique that make me a popular choice for casters for television and print ads!one of the best moments was to see myself as the lead in a commercial! my weight fluctuates but i don't hide under baggy clothes anymore- i flaunt my girls, the pair of legs God gave me and i let my personality shine. Best of all i love having my picture taken with the family!

i've always wanted to wear lovely sleeveless dresses and blouses whenever i go out instead of the usual shirt and jeans but my big arms and tummy had always stopped me from doing so.=( i wanted to be free from being insecure about my arms and tummy and be seen wearing fashionable dresses and blouses. =D

Although loving my curves has always been my number one principle that I’ll always live by, I also strongly believe that if I take care of my body , it will equally love me back as well. With the sports arena having to be giving out standards that you should be fit and lean to compete into any event, I grew up just playing ball games because it’s the only way I could play in a team without being awkward about my size. Have you always been plump? Why? I’ve always been plump and voluptuous. Being full figured runs in the family.

Have you ever been bullied/verbally abused/discouraged because of your weight?

Yes.

How did you react? What did you do about it? I have a very strong personality and it helped me to be positive during the times when people put me down because of my weight. I always tell myself that as long as I am healthy, there is no reason why I should feel bad. I have always been comfortable in my skin and I am very proud to be a full-figured woman.

Who is your style icon? If I had to pick one, it has to be Marilyn Monroe. During the peak of her career, she actually wore size 12 dresses and size 8 pants. Up to now, she’s still considered as one of the most beautiful and stylish women in the fashion/media industry.

Hello lovelies! :)

So this is what I wore to the office when the holidays were over and busy work days were back.

The top was the key piece in this whole getup. I love the fringe detail of it, and that alone made the outfit interesting. :) I was suppose to wear it with a black bandage skirt, but Danah protested and said this skirt went better with it because of its striped pattern. So I did. I always listen to Danah's style advice. Probably because most of the time it works, and historically speaking, she's really the fashionista between the two of us. I was more of a dork who wore V-necks and jeans all the time (I had the same V-neck in different colors). But then again, I still resort to my V-neck and jeans combo. I guess how I dress up really just depends on my mood.

I only wore two bangles as my accessories because as I've said, the top, skirt, and the shoes' details were the main highlights of the entire outfit already. I didn't want to overdo the accessorizing that it overshadows the key pieces. :)

Anyway, I'll stop blabbing. Here's my outfit! :)

As we usher in the new year (which I like to call 20-dozen), we want to bring you more options on how you can embody and release your body love. We all know that we can't look after something we hate, that's why we encourage you plumpies to enjoy your bodies. In that way, you'll be more adventurous in trying to do new things with it! :)

Yes, fatties can be fit too.

This year, Beyond Yoga is making people buzz with its brand new studio in Tomas Morato. They have their own signature cafe (Beyond Cafe) which offers 200 calories of pure yumminess per dish (for those who are serious about fitness, health and weight loss)! The studio can fit 30 people per class and has shower rooms, provides mats, lockers and a lounge area.

They have a variety of classes; from Hot Yoga to Zumba, I'm sure you'll be able to find one that best suits your interest and personality!

I believe this will be a fun experience to all you girls out there who have been wanting to do something different! I want to personally encourage you, because I know some of y'all are afraid to go to the gym or try a fitness class because of their bodies or fears of being judged. Please, don't let these USELESS thoughts get to you! You have to personally go and try it yourself!

I was once like that, hindering myself because of my weight and all. But one day I told myself I will never be able to finally do something I love if I hid myself from the world all because of a very shallow reason and irrational fear. So then I tried pole dancing and guess what? I made tons of great friends, connected with plumpies and became an "inspiration" to other wannabe pole dancers who are now doing it themselves! :)

So please, go out, have fun and LIVE YOUR LIFE!

We stumbled upon this blog post and we just want to share with you these awesome realities that we all tend to forget because of the limiting standards the society has created.

Ladies, as we start this year fresh, let's all throw away the lies and start embracing these truths. Happy new year, everyone! :)

You are beautiful. Not always and not to everyone, but we are all beautiful and deserving of love.
You do not have justify your body to anyone. Not to your family, your friends, your doctor, your partners. It is your body. No one else’s.
You are allowed to take up space. Use the world around you to your advantage. Be present in the world in as much space as you need to feel comfortable and safe.
You are more than your body. You have emotional, spiritual, and mental worth. People might see your body first, but everything else about you matters just as much.
You are allowed to change your body if you want to. You can gain or lose weight if it is your choice to do so. No one should shame you for either choice. You are also allowed to keep your body exactly the way it is right now, in this moment.
You are allowed to be angry over fatphobia. You do not have to sit quietly and let those around you make you feel bad for your size. You can be angry, resentful, hurt, sad. You can speak out against fatphobia. You can reject diet and weight loss talk if you do not want to hear it.
You can use the word fat. If you feel fat, you can use the word fat. You can reclaim it as a positive. You can use fat as a descriptor. No one can tell you that you are too small to use it. If it is part of who you are, do what’s best for you.
You can love other fat people. You can make fat and fat ally communities. You can surround yourself with positive forces. You can make fat love. You can fat love yourself.
You can wear what you want. Crop tops and short shorts. Mumus. Tutus and ties. It is up to you. Don’t let societal pressures like ‘flattering’ dictate your outfits. [HELL YEAH!!!]
You can be fat. That is good. That is okay. That is a celebration.

I love Christmas. I love everything about it. I love the scent of it. I love the aura it brings. I love the merriment that sparks as December begins. I love how it just magically brings everyone together.

Another thing that I really, really love about Christmas is the fact that I get a whole lot richer--in cash or in gift checks. :) HEEHEE! (Thanks, family! *kisses*)

I haven't shopped in months (would you believe it?!), so yesterday I decided to gift myself with the ultimate shopping spree before the year ends. And this decision immediately made us head to--where else--Forever 21 for the ultimate cash blowing bonding session! :)

This is what I wore to the mall. I opted to just wear a maxi dress so it wouldn't be that much of a hassle changing clothes. I just added the vest for extra-porma effect. :)

Okay, I'll skip the unnecessary apologies for being on hiatus for quite some time. I don't wanna dwell on that, and I'm over beating myself up for not making time for my first love--blogging!

Good news is, WE'RE BACK!!! And we've definitely not forgotten about you or this blog! Never have, and never will! *smooch*

The past December 16th, Yahoo! Philippines decided to have an omg! themed Christmas party at The Manila Peninsula, where all the employees had to be in a recognizable Hollywood costume. Guess who I went as? ;)

I went as Rihanna (NOT Nicki Minaj), dressed up in an outfit inspired by one of her looks in her Only Girl In The World music video! :)

I got Rihanna-fied by one of the best makeup artists I know, my dear friend Kaycee Anne Lim. Here's a close up of her awesome job! She did everything--from hair to makeup to the turning my skin evenly brown with body paint! She even "erased" my eyebrows and made it thinner to be similar to Rihanna's brows! The works! :)

Let's talk about Quest, baby

In a time where we're all drowned by pop music's auto-tuned voices and lyrics that talk about nothing but flashiness and/or cockiness, having a hot ass (like it's the best thing that could ever happen in a woman's life), and ridiculous desperation for petty love (which only really means having someone to sleep with), it's always nice to relax and listen to music with deep relevance and substance.

Quest's (whose real name is Jose Villanueva III) soulful music is purely those two things. He's gifted with a very powerful voice, and instead of using his talent to conform and write typical hip-hop songs about big booty bitches, blings, cars, and cash (you know what I'm talking about), he chooses to go the opposite way and lead the youth into giving meaning to things that truly matter in life. He chooses to create music to inspire, as evident in his album, Revolution.

We have a copy of his latest album and let me share with you my 3 most favorites from it!

I loooooooove this song, "Do You See." Hit that play button, listen, and prepare to be swooned, ladies! This song is super nakaka-kilig to the bones!!! (To the bone marrow pa, as Danah would say! HAHA :D )

Another one on my list, "Pagbabago", is one of Quest's original songs about Filipino empowerment. I get goosebumps of positivity (did that make sense?) every time I listen to this song! :) Ang sarap maging Pinoy! (It feels so good to be Filipino!)

And finally, here's my last selection that I definitely consider as music for the soul. It's so encouraging you will beam with happiness and hope after you listen to it! Okay, that's a bit exaggerated, but it's close to the effect once you finish listening--and grooving (because you will!)--to this track. :)

It's a useless platitude but allow me to still say this: Jose "Quest" Villanueva III is a brilliant song writer with a strong passion for his purpose. It's obvious that his mission is to convict the hearts and minds of many Filipinos through his art, and he does it with great sincerity and love.

Danah's October Picks!

This is gonna be the blog's first post on our personal favorite items of the month, and I'm the one to start (Danah)! :)

1. Lime Crime lippies

I have seen this brand online and I've been looking for local online sellers because we don't have it here yet! I've always wanted to try it because the colors they have are sooo unique and bright, not to mention the lipstick's packaging is just too cute to resist!

After scouring the internet for a legit seller, I came across The Balik Bayan Sale on Facebook! They're selling these babies at Php750 each! Not bad for these highly pigmented, long-lasting babies! :)

I got 3 colors, but this one is my favorite! It's called The Great Pink Planet. Cool lippie name, huh?

I like its baby pink tone!

2. My La Mer watch in camel

I've always been a fan of brown hues and watches. Put them together and it'll be one of my favorite pieces from my wardrobe! I really can't go out without a watch, I think if I have to choose between a watch and another wrist accessory, I'd go for the former. I even used to wear my favorite AK watch even when it wasn't working anymore! Haha! I just got so used to wearing it that I just had to have it on me.

What I love about the La Mer watch is its elegance, simplicity and chic-ness. It can definitely add that extra modern classy touch to an outfit. :)

3. Hairpieces extensions

I've always wanted to don long curly hair for a sophisticated Latina look (been watching too much Modern Family, I love, love, love Sophia Vergara's style) but my hair's length just won't let me! Good thing you can have long locks instantly (please don't get me wrong, I love my hair. I just wanted to try something new and it was just for a special occasion :) )! I really had fun with this look! What's cool was that NO ONE even noticed I was wearing extensions. Just goes to show how natural-looking the product is (made with 100% human hair). :)

4. F21 +'s latest collection

Here's my look during my reunion with my very awesome college girlfriends a few weeks back. Sucks I wasn't able to take any outfit photo but it was worth it because every minute spent with them was precious! :) I didn't have time to pose for the camera because we were too preoccupied enjoying each other's company. Again, this outfit was inspired by Sophia Vergara. :) It's very classy yet sexy at the same time. Even some of my office mates complimented my look! :>

I am super amazed with how you guys came up with Plump Pinay. I also have been enjoying your blog entries!

People call me Alex. And yes, I am a Plump Pinay. A proud one… J

I have been big since highschool, but have been “siksik” (chubby) as a child. I struggled hard to endure the emotional stress the whole weight thing had been giving. It was hard being rejected because of my size. The name calling was quite nasty too. I studied in an all-girls school, where beauty was just for “thin, chinita, petite and fair-skinned” ladies. Girls like me, never really had a chance to be considered beautiful, but deep inside I knew… I have whatever it takes to be one!

I was raised in a household where good food is always ready. I enjoyed it, but I would say I was not the matakaw (glutton) type. Not that I’m being defensive, but I knew my limits. I tried hard not to let the “fat” issues get to me. I did this by dressing up and doing all that I can to tell the world how happy I am with the size I wear. Still, people would end up saying: “Maganda ka sana, antaba mo naman (You're pretty, but you're fat)…” or “Sayang (too bad), you’re pretty, but you gotta lose weight…” Something to that effect, even if I tried to ignore it, part of me still got hurt… Maybe because those comments most of the time came from family! It even came to a point that a lola of mine commented on my size while having one family dinner, and she then went to my seat and said, “Oh, baka mamayat ka… (you might lose weight)” then she slid her left-overs on my plate! That for me was the endpoint of having picked on. I stood up and made sure everyone heard me… “Excuse me, I just lost my appetite and my respect for you.” Sometimes, people just do a little too much without realizing the impact of their actions. Being big doesn’t always mean you eat too much. It doesn’t always mean you’re a slob and lazy.

It was a relief to be away from home in college, in a university where no one really cares about who and what you are. It was then that I decided, “I WILL SHINE, AND NO ONE’S GONNA STOP ME!” And I did. I had to prove to the world that being fat means being miserable, incapable, slow, limiting… Joined the college council and did a short time in the track varsity. Little did I know that I was developing PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) which is supposedly part responsible for my weight gain, which is one of PCOS’ symptoms. I was 19 when I found out. I weighed 172lbs at 5’4. I was put on medications, oral contraceptives to regulate my period and supposedly help in taking my weight down together with exercise and diet! That lasted for two years. The doctor, however, didn’t expect that the counteraction of too much estrogen from the pills would cause one cyst to drastically grow. By the time I was 22, I was 180lbs! Even if I kept on exercising and dieting… It didn’t help, instead I was getting worse. In April 2010, I underwent surgery for what was supposed to be just a cyst removal, but my right ovary was badly affected as the growth seemed cancerous, I lost my right ovary.

After the surgery and 2kgs of fat taken off my tummy, I could imagine how people would continuously try to bother me and my flabby self, with them judging and without knowing the weight of the ordeal I had to go through. Trust me, the name calling just never ends. I get made fun of, even to this day. The surgery gave me a realization that I was given a second chance. And I was not going to waste it. And no one’s going to stop me.

Reading your posts heightened my desire more to be proud of who am I, what I have become and be proud of what I have. After all, you’re not given second chances to live the same way, the only best way to live life is to be the best that you can be. And that’s what I’m doing. At 175lbs, I'm at my happiest! :) Probably the happiest I've ever been. I know I can start making a difference and standing up for girls like me is one, another is trying to always see the beautiful side of things no matter how bad they are. :)

IT'S A WRAP!!!

We had such an amazing time getting to know these women's stories and their own reasons for joining this contest. Some want to bring out their inner stylista and learn more about fashion, while some just want to sincerely represent the demographic of bigger, curvier girls out there. We're so happy that SM is doing this, because it makes a lot of women grateful that finally, they too can dress nicely for themselves and be as fashionable as the smaller girls who have been always catered to by the fashion industry; and more importantly, that they too, BELONG. :)

Narito ako upang maglahad kung ano ang nagiging kahulugan ng "maganda" sa ating lipunan.

Kung makakakita kayo ng ganitong mga tao sa daanan, anong papasok sa utak niyo? (Matabang babaeng naglalakad, maitim na bata na tumatawa, pandak na naglalaro.) Anong pinaka-unang maiisip niyo? O, sa madaling salita, anong kutya ang maibabato niyo sa kanila? Dambuhala? Negro? Unano? Pangit? Hindi kaaya-ayang tingnan? At syempre, makokompleto ba 'tong panginginsultong ito kung walang halong paghalakhak at pagtawa sa direksyon nila? Maaring patago at sa isipan mo lang to ginagawa, o maaring sa harap-harapan talaga nila. Pero ganun pa man din, nahusgahan mo na sila.

Dahil ba sa palagay niyo, ang mga matatawag lang nating "gwapo" o "maganda" ay yung mga kabaligtaran ng mga nasabi ko? Yung may magagandang korte ng katawan, matatngkad, matangos ang ilong, perpekto ang mukha? Bakit? Nakasulat ba ito sa Saligang Batas? O sa Bibliya? O sa mga agham at matematika? Naisip niyo man to o hindi, ang media ang nagiimpluwensiya ng pinakamalaki sa kung ano ang dapat katangian at karakteristik ng isang tao. Ang media ang naglalabas ng iba't ibang produktong pampakinis ng balat, pampaputi ng ngipin, mga slimming pills, gamot na nagpapatangkad, mga injectibles na nagpapalaki ng mga puwet, ng mga mga bisig at kung anu-ano pa. At ano nga ba ang nagagawa nito sa atin? Maliban sa pansamantalang pagbago nito sa ating kaanyuan, ano pa nga ba ang ginagawa nito sa atin? Let me clarify first that we did not talk about the theme of what our outfit would be for the day when we wore these! :) Our twin transmitters must be working again. :D HEH.

While looking at these photos, I recall having a conversation while dining out with a really established business man in his '50s. (And no, it wasn't a date, it was actually our mom's business meeting and she tagged us along.) We were talking about random things, which eventually lead us to discuss food. While on this topic, he mentioned that his wife loved to eat, and he'd call her out when she starts gaining weight because he doesn't want his wife to get fat. Apparently he prefers his wife's physique to be thin than plump, which I respect because I'm well aware of the fact that we all have different tastes. But then he started giving out some "friendly advice", that we (my sister and I), should lose weight (and YES, this was his primary reason) so we could enjoy life while we are young. After saying this, all I could hear was my voice in my head, laughing at how absurd the conversation was becoming. He said that now was the great time for us to enjoy fashion and dress in whatever we want to wear. Obviously, he thought that being bigger than the average Filipina prevented us from being stylish, from wearing clothes that fit our style. He also thought that as you get older, your capability to revel in being fashionable diminishes, as implied by his words "while you are young".

What I wanted to say then and there: WELL I'M TERRIBLY SORRY TO DISAPPOINT YOU MISTER, BUT IF YOU CHECK OUT OUR BLOG AND TAKE A LOOK AT OUR FABULOUS OUTFITS, YOU'D THINK TWICE BEFORE TELLING ME WHAT YOU'RE TELLING ME NOW.

But of course I didn't say that. I let him talk about the oh so sad hindrances that come with being fat. Even though I badly wanted to start busting the myth that he'd considered as truth, I just had to bite my tongue, because as Jesus said, "Don't cast pearls before swine. (Matthew 7:6)" ;) Seriously though, I felt bad for the man. It's just really sad--and not to mention frustrating--how stereotypical people can get towards others who do not fit the "standards" they've accepted. And it's even sadder that they measure the worth and capabilities of others with age and the way they look.

There are a lot of people who have been doing the impossible, and if some people assume that it's impossible for fat people to enjoy fashion and life in general, it's either they've never come across fierce, fatshionable ladies, or they're just THAT shallow and/or discriminating to insist that weight/size determines how fulfilling or happy a person's life could be--which is just plain idiotic, moronic, and to put it simply, stupid. Either way, we'd loooooove to prove them wrong. ;)

New Kids On the Block

We rarely go out for lunch because of the erratic weather, but since yesterday was a bright and sunshiney day (and our good friend a couple of blocks away offered to treat lunch, hehe), we decided to walk to a nearby resto to eat. :)

My sister is very keen on OoTD photos, because she wants it to be, simply put, PERFECT. It's almost impossible to please her! It's either this angle is not so nice, the lighting is terrible (and we're under the SUN), blah blah blah. Yeah, yeah, I understand. She only wants the best for our readers. :) NAKS!

So as we walked around the Fort, she kept on stopping and pointing to areas where we could shoot. We finally saw a wall that's perfect for photo ops, so we took some shots. Unfortunately, the guard shooed us away (I think we caused a scene, BWAHAHAHA), hence the different backgrounds of these photos. :))

I COLORED MY HAIR! :)

Well not really, but I had my root touch-ups! :) I'm very particular when it comes to hair color, especially when I just like to play around with brown tones. Since I'm not as bold as Stacy when it comes to hair, I always make it a point that my hair is dyed in the right shade of brown. Thank God there's Azta Urban Salon! I really love their services and I trust that they always make me look better every time I visit! :)

So yesterday, I went to their Pioneer branch. They quickly attended to me and started with my mani-pedi. :) Of course they only use the best nail polish such as OPI and Orly. Half way through my pedicure, their stylist, Louie (with gorgeous blonde hair), came over to check my hair. He asked me if I remembered the shade last used on me but I don't, so he had to match it himself. While waiting, they offered me their very yummy milk tea (which I LOVE)! :)

After several minutes, my manicure was done and my hair was ready to be rinsed. They shampooed me and blow dried my hair. I asked politely if another person could help in drying my thick mane because I was in a bit of rush, and they gladly agreed. They were very fast, and my hair afterward was so silky smooth and bouncy! I LOVE IT! And I didn't even have to tell him what I wanted. :) I still haven't washed my hair this very moment (haha!) just because I want the look to last a day more. I promise to wash my hair tonight. :D Hee.

OoTD: When we were young

When we were younger, it was very difficult for anybody to tell us apart--including our own family! We were really exactly alike (we are identical twins) when we were little, and our mom enjoyed playing with us (we're like her dolls) and dressing us up in exact same outfits. I remember how our family used earrings as "markers" to know which is which! The baby in purple earrings was Danah, and the one wearing the green earrings was me. Haha! I wonder if someone decided to trip on us and switched our earrings and never changed it back... Who knows, I could be the real Danah all these years... HAHA! Me and my theories. :))

Anyway, here are just some of the photos that prove how our mom really took delight (and still is!) in having twins:

Wow, I just realized I'm starting to be more active in posting OoTDs! :)

Here's what I wore to the office two Fridays ago. We have this mini-sort-of-party called "Happy Hour" in Yahoo!, wherein we all get together some place outside the office, bond with our colleagues, have a couple of drinks and just unwind from work! This was actually the first time I've experienced our Happy Hour, and we went karaoke-ing and drinking at Elbow Room. IT WAS SO MUCH FUN!!!

Jealous of my mustache? C|:{D ( <--- sombrero-wearing, mustached smiley) This amusing necklace is my new favorite accessory because it doubles as a cool prop for photos (SO AWESOME)! :) It's from an online store called FRKRs (which stands for Finders Keepers), and it's like a candy store for people into classic, vintage items and eclectic, bohemian things.
SIDE NOTE: The hand-painted mustache pendant is made of metal which makes the two ends of it quite sharp, so you have to be careful when you play with it. I also suggest you don't wear tops that are of thin fabric because the edges might tear or poke holes through your clothes. :)

If there is one thing we passionately support and strongly believe in, it's Health at Every Size. This discovery has been a great inspiration to me and my sister which has served as one of our platforms in spreading the gospel of body love and acceptance. I will not speak, or should I say type, any longer because I want you to read for yourself and be informed. We hope that you accept these facts well and share it to others who have been brainwashed by what the society has continuously presented and fed us with when it comes to health and weight. :)

Health at Every Size (HAES) is a lifestyle that encourages healthy eating and enjoyable physical activity as a way to feel better and live longer. Unlike other programs, it does not believe weight loss through dieting is the way to become healthy.

Scientific evidence supports this idea. In a 2006 study by researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 78 obese women were placed into either the Health at Every Size program or a traditional weight-loss program. Women in the weight-loss program were instructed to eat less, count calories, and exercise more.

The Health at Every Size group was encouraged to eat when they were hungry and to appreciate the feeling of fullness, to make healthy food choices, and to find a style of physical activity that was most enjoyable for them. They were not given a list of "forbidden foods," nor were they told to exercise to lose weight. They were also given techniques to build their self-esteem and to increase the confidence they had in their bodies.

After two years, both groups weighed approximately the same. The women in the weight-loss group lost some weight after six months, but regained it after two years. The women in the Health at Every Size group had healthier blood pressure, lower cholesterol, and were more physically active than the dieting group.

The study's results came as no surprise to Linda Bacon, researcher and author of Health at Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight. Bacon holds a Ph.D. in physiology with a focus on nutrition and weight regulation.

"Health at Every Size is about taking care of your body without worrying about whether you're ‘too’ big or small," she says. "People might think they can tell who's fit and who's not by looking at them, but in fact, it's trickier than that. Lots of people are fat and fit—many avid dancers, runners, lifters, and sports team members are big to start with and stay that way. They tend to be far healthier than thin people who don't move around much or eat a nutritious mix of foods.

“Saying everybody needs to be the same weight is like saying all people should be the same height."

Diets Don’t Work

Your body's weight is determined by genetics. Like height or skin color, weight and body type vary from person to person. A person's ideal weight range is called their set-point weight.

Your set-point weight is controlled by a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus regulates the body's feeling of hunger and satiety—the full feeling you get after you've eaten a meal. One of the jobs of the hypothalamus is to keep you as close to your set-point weight as possible.

When you go on a diet and lose weight, your hypothalamus interprets the sudden weight loss as a problem somewhere in the body. It will do whatever it can to get you back to your set-point weight. The hypothalamus will release hormones to increase your appetite. It will slow down your metabolism, so you don't lose weight quickly. It will even make you feel more lethargic, or sluggish, and less likely to exercise.

Dieting can backfire by resetting your set-point weight at a higher level, to protect your body against the sudden changes of future diets.

"No one who diets is fit,” Bacon says, “because dieting hurts your metabolism, and your metabolism determines how your body uses energy.

“But diets not only don't work—they're making us fat. Scientific studies show that if your weight 'yo-yos,' if it goes up and down a lot, that leads to long-term weight gain, especially when you're young. Teens' and preteens' metabolisms are trying to figure out what their adult pattern will be. Diets interfere with that. People with stable weights, even high ones, often enjoy better health than dieters and ex-dieters."

Fat Isn’t the Problem

In 2004, the Journal of the American Medical Association reported that 400,000 obese and overweight Americans die every year. That's the information it got from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP).

However, the CDC later learned that the methods by which it got those numbers were faulty. When it re-did the report with better methods and new data, just 26,000 overweight or obese people a year died—fewer than the number who died due to guns, alcohol, or car accidents. The deaths were typically from people who had a body mass index (BMI)—a measure of body fat based on height and weight—greater than 35. Most overweight people are in the lower range, from 30 to 35.

In fact, life expectancy in the United States has risen—along with the obesity rate—from 70.8 years in 1970 to 78.2 in 2009. In its revised study, the CDC found that overweight people actually live longer, with 86,000 fewer deaths in the overweight category than in the normal weight category. And underweight people died more often than either overweight or obese people, suggesting that the thinnest people in the U.S. may be at a greater health risk.

In Health at Every Size, Bacon writes, "Many well-meaning scientists and medical practitioners are misled about the ill effects of being heavy. There is clearly a correlation between obesity and certain diseases and conditions, like diabetes or hypertension, but that doesn't mean being fat causes these conditions. It may be that whatever causes the diabetes also causes people to gain weight.
“To help explain this, one example I like deals with bald men and heart disease: Influential studies show that men with hair loss are more likely to have heart attacks. Does that mean going bald causes heart attacks? And can keeping your hair (or getting hair transplants) protect against cardiovascular disease? Well, of course not! After research and analysis, the baldness-heart risk association still isn't totally clear, but it appears that testosterone —which can cause both baldness and heart problems—is a likely culprit.

“In other words, fat isn’t the problem. When we see diseases that are more common in fatter people, it’s more about what they’re doing, than they’re fat. So the key is to make healthy changes in what you do and stop worrying so much about weight."

Health at Every Size

Health at Every Size focuses on health, not weight, as an indicator of your overall well-being. But if weight isn't a measurement of our overall health, how do we know we're healthy?

Bacon says, Weight distracts us, and this focus results in poor medical care for everyone. 'Normal weight' people—who may have poor health habits and disease—don’t get good diagnoses or support for changing habits, which may catch up with them. People in the overweight and obese categories get stigmatized, encouraged in restrictive eating—even if they may actually have great health habits to begin with. Perhaps this could be a better focus for medical care—interviewing people about whether they have social support and manage stress well, whether they are regularly active, if they eat well.

"What's good for thin kids, fat kids and everyone in between, it turns out, is moving their bodies and a healthy mix of foods that taste good and nourish our bodies. Finding activity you enjoy might mean sports or workouts, but it could also be walking, jumping rope with friends, or dancing.

“With eating, Health at Every Size calls for intuitive eating. This means learning to listen to your body so you can recognize when you're hungry and when you're full, and what foods satisfy you. You don’t get as many nutrients from food when you don’t enjoy it, so do take care to choose foods you love. Sugar and candy can taste great, but they don’t give you other nutrients your body needs, and you’ll find that you can get grumpy, tired, and don’t do so well in school if that’s all you eat. And if you skip the fruit and veggies, you’ll probably find yourself struggling in the bathroom too long, so you don’t want to avoid those. So mix it up and get a range of nutrients in you to keep your body function best and to keep you most alert and in a good mood. Experiment with food to see which ones make you feel best."

Bacon also recommends trying a range of foods to find ones that you enjoy. "What I find even more interesting is that research supports that people actually absorb more nutrients from meals that appeal to them than from meals they find less appetizing.

“In one interesting study, researchers fed a traditional Thai meal of rice and vegetables spiked with chili paste, fish sauce, and coconut cream to two groups of women, one Swedish and one Thai. The Thai women, who presumably liked the meal better than the Swedish women, absorbed 50 percent more iron from the same food than the Swedish women. And when the meal was blended together and turned to an unfamiliar and unpalatable paste, the Thai women’s absorption of iron from the meal decreased by 70 percent! So choking down the plate of steamed broccoli (if you hate steamed broccoli) is not likely to do you as much good as you think. Enjoying your food is an important nutritional practice."

The Health at Every Size plan doesn't put restrictions on the foods a person eats. Rather, it places more trust in the person to select foods that are right for them, and to stop eating when they feel full. Bacon says, "Have you ever noticed that, when you hear you can't have something—like ice cream, say, or chips—you want it all the more? Health at Every Size gets rid of 'in' and 'out' lists for food. If we trust our bodies and learn to listen to our appetites, they'll lead us to a healthy mix of foods and signal when we've had enough. When you can eat what you want and need, cravings and the munchies aren't such a problem, and you're no longer in danger of eating out of control."

Bacon writes,"What no one needs, at any size, is to feel bad about how they look or what they weigh. People who live by Health at Every Size ideas tend to feel better about themselves, and that can lead to better health, too, with less stress and disordered eating."

Though I still like blue, lately I'm liking shades of deep green as well. I think it makes me look quite Christmas-y matched with my red hair, which is kind of appropriate given it's the -BER months already! We all know how we Filipinos are always atat (looking forward to) and excited for the best-est holiday, beginning our Christmas countdown and local radio stations playing Christmas songs as early as September! WEEEEEEEEE I'm so excited!!! *cough*ChristmasBonus*cough*

EYE-POPPING YELLOW! :) Fashion Galore just released their own version of the Cambridge satchels! The one I have is the 13-inch satchel in bright yellow. It's made of synthetic/nubuck leather, which gives it a soft, velvety surface similar to suede, but definitely more durable. The locks look like two belts, but behind it are magnetic buttons that make opening the bag easier as compared to the real belt locks of the original Cambridge satchels. The belt-like strap of the bag is adjustable too. One thing to take note of though is the quality of the synthetic leather used for this batch of bags. While it is waterproof, it gets easily stained just like suede and often requires stain-protection treatments. We know for a fact that body-acceptance doesn't only refer to one's size/shape. The advertising media, always on the move to show women that you're never enough mainly for profit's sake (c'mon, you know how it works--"Your hair isn't as straight as this digitally altered one, buy this product NOW!" or "your skin isn't as perfect and poreless as the model's in this ad, GET THIS CREAM TO 'ACHIEVE' IT!"), has contributed to the body-hate and nitpicking of women's body parts. This more often than not result to women seeing their bodies in bits and pieces, and not as one whole being. Worse, it has power to make women think that their worth is based merely on their bodies, looks and appearance. Case in point, a lot of advertisements show that dark-skinned FILIPINAS (emphasis on our nationality, because we live in a tropical country which means we are meant to be and naturally dark) are inadequate, insecure and unable.

You know the scenario. It's been used in almost ALL skin-whitening products' commercials. Girl about to audition for whatever, or go out on a date, but all of a sudden doubts herself and shies away because she's dark-skinned. THEN TADAHHH!!! The magical whitening soap/lotion/pills appears on the screen, changes the model's color to an incredibly lighter tone, and unbelievably boosts her confidence levels too! This is just really annoying. There are so many degrading self-esteem messages they send out to the dark-skinned women targeted by these ads.

With our society's obsession to be lighter, we decided to feature Ria, a 19-year old Lasallian bronze beauty who's accepted her color and is enjoying life in her brown skin.

Have u always been dark?
Yes, I've always been dark. 19 years and counting.

Were there negative labels attached to your skin color growing up? If yes, how did these labels affect your personal view on your body image?
Yes, definitely. Especially in grade school, I'd often be teased by my male classmates and even some of my girl friends about my skin color. Some of my male classmates would call me 'negro' and other labels like that. Even in my own home as a child, I felt that my family wished that I was lighter. I even remember my lola used to buy me all these soaps and lotions to make me lighter, and she'd always remind me to avoid playing outside if it's sunny so that I wouldn't get darker.

Although generally I was always aloof about everyone's prodding, at some point, it got to me. We all know that there's a point in every girl's life when she cares about her appearance above anything else, and when I was in that period in my life, I felt the need to conform to the preferred ‘mestiza’ standard.

Did you ever dream of becoming lighter? Why/why not?
Yes, I did. I think I entertained the idea when I was around 13 years old or something like that. I wanted to become lighter because I was annoyed at all the people who teased me at school. Although it would never qualify as being bullied, (because I’d always fight back—boys included…ha ha!) it was enough pressure to have me do my rounds in the grocery, meticulously choosing the best whitening soaps and lotions that would make my skin lighter. I also had my fair share of insecurities with my morena skin, especially when my girl friends started to get boyfriends; and I attributed this to their being mestiza.

Did you personally struggle with your skin color?
I did struggle at times. I had my bouts of jealousy towards fairer-skinned girls, and resentment for my genetics. But all I had to do was to remind myself that beauty comes in all shapes, sizes—and color—and that in time, found out for myself that it is indeed true. :)

Have you ever experienced verbal abuse from family regarding this?
NEVER. I am blessed to have such a loving and supportive family. Crazy at times, but nonetheless, a very awesome family.

How did you come into terms with your color?
I came to terms with my skin color because I eventually realized that looking good was not exclusive to mestizas. I realized that being ‘beautiful’ means being comfortable in your own skin and working with what you have. I also have to credit my favorite college professor, Miss Judy Sibayan, for opening my eyes to diversity through her memorable and very thought-provoking class discussions.

I also found that people have become more open-minded and aware of the diversity of beauty, which I find ultimately inspiring. The Gutierrez sisters are a living proof of this and I greatly admire them for it.

What is your message to other women who feel inferior because of their skin color?
First thing—WHY? Second—DON’T. Third—DON’T. Fifth—DON’T. If you find yourself feeling inferior because of your skin color, REPEAT.

Who/what to blame for this? Years and years of the media and the ourselves listening to the people around us who keep telling us that we are not perfect. This overlaps other beauty stereotypes; there’s the perpetual weight issue (which btw, if I think, if you are going to lose weight, it should be done because you want to be healthy and not because of vanity), there’s this, the issue of skin color, there’s also the one-million things wrong-with-your-face-so-get-plastic-surgery issue, among many others. But the thing is, these flaws will never cease to exist until you tell yourself that they don’t exist.

You know what? They probably don’t.

So learn to accept yourself. There is nothing wrong with you. The prettiest girls are those who are comfortable in their own skin.

What's a most memorable experience you've had regarding your skin color?
A guy once told me out-of-the-blue, in all seriousness, “You know what I love about you? Your color. I don’t know. You just…glow.” :)

MANTIKA! BAKA! PIGGYYY WIGGGYY! THE LITTLE GIANT!

Imagine having to hear that all over the corridors at 7 in the morning with nothing but your Hello Kitty stroller, glitzy lunchbox, and a shattered self-confidence. Bullying, after all, is legal in highschool or gradeschool or kindergarten. Anything beyond that should be imposed against the law, or in my own point of view, should be eradicated from the phase of the earth. Fair enough 'ey?

Imagine having to have a taste of both worlds, being plump and being lean; feel the weight of vanity’s judgment written all over the society but still feel adequate, fulfilled, and confident at the end of the day. I went over a transition before, a big one that is. I lost weight , a lot of it, then I gained back, half of it. Which to lay away with mathematical terms, brings me close enough to the size I was before. Am I scared that the bullying will never stop? No. Am I anxious that people will still fit me under the category of “chubby” and “plump”? No. Is there any reason for me not to accept myself now because I wasn’t able to maintain what I had before?--- Okay. Stop right there. This makes me think a lot because, would the basis of self-acceptance be on how the society treated and is still treating me? I think that’s overrated. I was in a happy place before, but I was fragile, careful, composed and I wanted to push myself to be normal--I wanted too much of normality. But to be this size, far away from normal--it’s actually better, the best even. You get to develop a personality, an image, a silhouette that’s uncategorized by society but recognized the most. You get to be different in the most beautiful way possible. You get to realize that in any dress size and in any kind of tape measure, you won’t let it consume you just because these things don’t really matter at all, they shouldn’t matter in the first place.

Yes, my body changed. I tried losing weight again but happy hours and dine-all-you-can are two loyal best friends after a bad day. Yes, I can be distinguished in that crowd of models I do make-up for. Yes, I can be large in a country where people are short and thin. Yes, I still am referred occasionally as different in the most unique way possible. And really, life’s all good at the tail of this tape measurement because at the end of the day, I have this fulfilled self-worth that no matter where I am placed, I still can achieve something. I still can make a change. I still can work out the little black dress, leopard wedges, and MAC Russian Red lipstick, and I don’t have to require myself to go on a strict diet just to feel fabulous inside those things. I still mean something to the society, to the world, to my friends, to my family and to my MAN. It’s a tough world out there and perfection can be judged as something to be seen but not felt. Well, not in my world because from where I’m looking at, perfection doesn’t exist, only a genuine character. After all, Audrey Hepburn didn’t say in Breakfast at Tiffany’s that you have to be a size 0 to wear a sexy black dress and be fabulous right? The only way to realizing self worth is actually embracing what you have and see only yourself, and not that plastic little perfect world out there.

I'm in a white dress! *gasp* Last time I recall myself wearing one was years ago.

Wore this all day in the office (thank God our a/c wasn't set to freezing that day) before Danah and I headed to my aunt's birthday dinner celebration which is why I got all dressed up in the first place. :)

Yhansy located at the Urban Lifestyle section of the 5th floor of Shangri La Mall. ~~I know, that wasn't very helpful. :\ The store's name is quite hard to pronounce, let alone remember! Forgive me. :D But it's the new accessory store near Una Rosa.~~

I like looking at women. I enjoy seeing their personalities through their clothes. I guess it just fascinates me how seeing all the unique, beautiful women give the public a little introduction of who they are through the way they present themselves.

I'm going to be honest though. There are times when I don't understand why someone would wear something like whatever outfit he or she is in, but I am teaching myself to simply appreciate their unique sense of style, accept that it's a part of their individuality, end it there, and continue on my own merry way. Either that or I am unlearning making prejudiced assumptions on someone's whole being--more specifically the being of a stranger--based on something as shallow as how she or he dresses up.

Biting my tongue when I have nothing nice to say is actually a good habit to practice when I observe the people surrounding me, but as you all know, it is not easy. I must admit, I still catch myself in those occasional glitches when I make an inside joke about whatever it is that I see, but I make sure I keep it to myself. If you come to think of it, it is definitely hard to prevent yourself from making biased assumptions. It's almost natural for us to just be snarky--even if indirectly--to strangers, to people we haven't even met before. We do it anyway. We nudge our friend when we see something that is unusual or odd to us. But see, this bad habit of constantly judging others loudly (or not), or making a parody of other people's looks (features, body parts)--most especially fat people--has to end because nothing really good comes out from it.

Sadly, not everyone has resolved to zipping their mouths when they have nothing nice to say. I know A LOT of people, women and men alike, who just can't do away with the ugly habit of uttering comments that are very mocking and insulting to other people's styles. Others are usually mean to fat people who opt to break the so-called rules regarding what they can or cannot wear that are heavily enforced on them by the society, making it seem as if they've committed a very offensive crime when they choose to disobey. What's even more horrible are those people who unthinkingly say mean things based on someone's physical appearance, pointing out what they don't like and making a mockery out of it for their pure entertainment.

I was browsing through the photo albums posted by an online swimwear shop, and I came across this particular photo.

(4th comment) Posted at 07 April at 13:10-- "Then I can wear one [bikini] too! As long she's the one with me [in photos]..."

I'm sure the person who started mocking the fat woman for being in a bikini wasn't trying to be mean. She was, of course, just trying to be funny. But seriously, what if the tables were turned and other people were the ones making jokes at her expense? At her body's expense? Would she find the whole situation funny still? I think not.

Honestly speaking, I think people who are mapanglait (insulting, ridiculing) are insecure, aside from rude. Because if they really are secure within themselves, then they wouldn't have the need to insult other people. They wouldn't have the need to put other people down just to feel better about themselves. They wouldn't have the need to pick on other people's unique individuality to have a sense of satisfaction or whatever it is that they get out of it. (Case in point: Read the 2nd and 4th comment on the photo above.)

Maybe some are just trying to be funny, and the best way they can think of being hilarious is to criticize others and jokingly mock their looks. If so, it just means that their sense of humor would constantly need other people for them to poke fun at, and seriously, those types of people need to start being original.

Just because a body is in public doesn't mean it's publicly open for a little "funny" telling off. We should learn to respect other people's choices on how they want to decorate their bodies because after all, that's what makes us all unique and distinct from one another.

We should learn when to bite our tongues and think first about the impact of the words we will utter. You might want to consider the fact that you don't know a single thing about the person you're about to criticize, so needless to say, assuming anything is pointless. The fat woman who opts to wear a sexy outfit that you think is so shamelessly disgusting of her to even think of fitting her body in such clothing could be a single mom who has just decided to love herself more and feel beautiful by getting a makeover. The skinny girl you assume to be Anorexic could be coming from a family that's just naturally thin no matter how much food they eat. The girl you call ugly because her face is covered in acne is probably having self-esteem issues already because of something that is completely out of her control.

I know the issue at hand can be easily justified by saying that the people you decide to pick apart won't even know they're being mocked because you do it behind their backs. But seriously, do you really want to be THAT kind of person? The kind whose expertise is ridiculing, mocking, and insulting people? The kind who makes fun of other people because they look the way they do? Because believe me, even if you think this is something you do just for fun, it will become a habit, and habits eventually become a part of your character. You'd end up being overly critical and judgmental, and you'd start assuming that other people do it to you too. It's such a negative way to go through life.

If we all learn to to speak nothing but positive, kind, and sincere words of affirmation to one another, this world will be a better place full of happy and confident women. And we all want that world, don't we? :)

Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.
